V2.5.0 Current release

  • Reorganized the daily forecast into seven clearer groups, combining day/night conditions, temperature/feels-like ranges, wind/gust ranges, and rain/snow totals without removing their individual values.
  • Added a Yesterday row using recent past-day model data, clearly distinguished from station observations and the forward forecast.
  • Preserved wind speed and gust low–high ranges, plus the wind-from compass direction, degree bearing, and downwind arrow.
  • Kept variable-specific model reporting counts and rain/snow model-signal indicators in the merged layout, with a compact mobile card presentation.
  • Made the large current temperature interactive, with Temperature and Feels like tabs showing each reporting model’s current reading.
  • Added this complete in-app release history and updated the forecast cache schema and service-worker shell cache.

V2.4.0

  • Added individual-model drilldowns to all eight overview tiles and expandable daily per-model detail tables.
  • Added local daytime and nighttime condition summaries to each daily forecast row.
  • Introduced All, Reporting, Partial, and Unavailable filters across the full model catalogue.
  • Added shared reporting and daylight helpers, local sunrise/sunset handling, and expanded regression coverage.

V2.3.1

  • Hardened per-model hourly data normalization so misaligned, missing, or non-numeric series are excluded and reported instead of corrupting consensus calculations.
  • Clarified meteorological wind direction: text and degrees show where wind comes from, while the compass arrow points where it travels.
  • Refined model catalogue eligibility and regression coverage for forecast endpoint and data-integrity behaviour.

V2.3

  • Added hold-and-drag and keyboard controls to rearrange the overview tiles, with the chosen order saved on the device.
  • Improved iPhone Home Screen safe-area spacing and the standalone status-bar appearance.
  • Improved compass direction presentation and low/high range readability, especially for negative temperatures.

V2.2

  • Introduced consistent 12-hour local time throughout the forecast interface.
  • Added consensus-derived daily low–high ranges for temperature, feels-like, wind, and gusts.
  • Added circular wind-direction averaging and compass-direction indicators.

V2.1.0

  • Established the multi-model forecast foundation with independent model requests, partial-data retention, and provider-family-balanced robust consensus.
  • Added a model catalogue, variable-specific reporting counts, and deterministic-model precipitation signals.
  • Established the password-protected Cloudflare Pages app, signed sessions, protected forecast API, security headers, and progressive web app support.

Original foundation Before V2.1

  • Created the Northstar Weather dashboard, location-based forecast experience, and Cloudflare Pages deployment.
  • Added server-side password protection and a secure forecast API before the numbered V2.1 release line.

How the consensus works

Each supported model is requested independently for the selected coordinates. Successful forecasts are kept even when they cover only part of the 16-day window or only some variables.

Initial consensus weights are balanced by forecast provider/family, then a robust outlier adjustment reduces—but does not automatically discard—extreme model values. No model has a claimed historical skill advantage until local verification data have been collected.

Models reporting is a count of unique model forecasts with valid values for that variable and time period. Counts can differ between temperature, wind, rain and snow.

Rain / snow model signal is the share of deterministic models reporting a measurable hourly amount. It is useful for seeing how widely a precipitation scenario is represented across the available models, but it is not a calibrated probability of precipitation.

Free API limits

This build uses the Open-Meteo free API for non-commercial use. Its current terms permit fewer than 10,000 calls per day. Each deterministic model/location refresh uses a separate request. Results are cached in this browser and at the Cloudflare edge for 60 minutes to reduce calls. Do not use this free endpoint for commercial purposes.
